The global industry market size in 2017 was approximately US$60 billion. Roche acquired IQuum in April 2014 and quickly entered the molecular diagnostics market. In June of the same year, it acquired the sequencing company GeniaTechnologies. In January 2015, it acquired 56.3% of the shares of Foundation Pharmaceuticals. Foundation is a molecular diagnostic testing research and development institution. So far, Roche is in molecular diagnostics. The leading position in the field, in vitro diagnostic sales reached 12.079 billion Swiss francs in 2017, ranking first in the global in vitro diagnostic market.

Abbott

Abbott is a global and diversified healthcare company. Its business has always focused on healthcare. Its products include nutritional products, diagnostic products, diabetes care, cardiovascular products, pharmaceuticals, etc. Abbott acquired molecular diagnostics company Vysis for US$355 million in 2002, and i-STAT for US$392 million in 2004. Its i-STAT based on microfluidic technology has given Abbott a significant advantage in the POCT field. In fiscal 2017, Abbott acquired the world’s largest POCT manufacturer Merlier has achieved complementary advantages to strengthen it. In vitro diagnostic sales jumped to 5.616 billion US dollars that year.

Danaher

Danaher started as a financial investment company. After a series of large-scale mergers and acquisitions, Danaher successfully transformed into the world's largest integrated management group for industrial products. From 1986 to the end of 2014, it acquired more than 400 companies. The company has five main business departments: testing and measurement, environment, dentistry, life science and diagnosis, and industrial technology. In 2011, Danaher acquired Beckman for US$6.8 billion, and Beckman owns the world's top automated biochemical analyzers and endoscopes. Sales of Danaher's IVD business in 2017 were approximately US$5.84 billion, of which Beckman's revenue accounted for the majority.
